ACID Reflux ( GERD )

Acid Reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), is a digestive condition where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus-the tube connecting the mouth and stomach. This backflow irritates the lining of the esophagus, causing discomfort and potential complications.

Symptoms of GERD:

• Heartburn (burning sensation in the chest)
• Regurgitation of acid or food
• Difficulty swallowing
• Chronic cough or throat irritation
• Hoarseness or sore throat
• Chest pain

Causes of GERD:

1. Weak or relaxed lower esophageal sphincter (LES)

2. Hiatal hernia

3. Obesity

4. Pregnancy

5. Certain foods and drinks (spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol)

6. Smoking

7. Eating large meals or lying down soon after eating
