There are many people in the region who have a natural eye for good art, but art evaluation is a skill to be honed and learned over the years. It’s not a common skill but a rare one and those who have it are sought after by those who know the true value of art pieces.

Paintings and sculptures all need to be authenticated so these can be sold at their actual prices. But who determines these prices? How does a work of art acquire its prestigious status? It’s through arts evaluation. Dubai is a cultural hub of the UAE and tourists from across the globe flock to this destination in search of unique and creative pieces of artwork.

Every piece of art has a unique story to tell and its background knowledge is what makes them so special. People from different parts of the world evaluate and interpret the work of art according to their own unique perspectives. But when these works are created originally, they have a particular context and that is where the skills of an art connoisseur are tested. Dubai is quickly gaining popularity for welcoming diverse cultures through its art exhibitions and it’s no surprise that art evaluators are constantly looking for new opportunities in this wonderful emirate.

Why is Art Evaluation Important in Dubai?

Art and culture are important to every nation and the UAE is no exception. The emirs and the sheiks of the land welcome and cherish excellent art pieces and many are themselves quite adept at evaluating the works of art. Art evaluation extracts the hidden treasures from the works of art even when the works are thousands of years old.

Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why evaluation of art is important, especially in Dubai.

Creativity

It unravels the mysteries of art by going into the depths of an artwork. Painters and sculptors exhibit extraordinary genius and creativity when they are designing a work. Sometimes, they even leave hidden messages in their works to pass the message to future generations without being noticed by their contemporaries. Such interpretation is the skill of art evaluation a must-have in an emirate like Dubai.

Uniqueness

As time passes, there are new technologies being introduced to create a copy of the original masterpieces. This makes it extremely difficult to differentiate the original from a copy, only those who have a meticulous eye for detail can unearth the true nature of an artwork. Moreover, arts evaluation has also become scientific today. Art connoisseurs use technologically advanced tools to evaluate the works of art so they can find out the uniqueness of the artworks.

Authenticity

As fake pieces of art hit the market on a regular basis, it’s essential that people should first authenticate an artwork before investing in it. Art pieces are quite expensive so one wrong decision can translate into huge losses for the buyer. It’s important for them to understand the authenticity of art before diving in to make the investment.

How is an Artwork Evaluated?

Artworks are evaluated through various means. However, the traditional evaluation requires extensive knowledge of the historical background of that work and the genius who created the masterpiece. Moreover, knowledge of the prevailing social conditions at the time when the artwork was created also plays a pivotal role in the evaluation of art.

Apart from the knowledge, art evaluation also involves modern techniques such as smart technologies and huge databases to authenticate the information about an artwork to help art lovers distinguish the real ones from fake artworks. Today, artworks are registered and have a recorded history of owners that trails back to the creator of the art. There’s no break in this chain, thanks to the advent of modern technology and the possibility of having huge databases.

There are also other techniques involved to evaluate artworks.
